Onboarding and the website analyzer

How the three-step wizard reads your website, what it will and will not overwrite, and what happens when a site cannot be read.

Onboarding exists to get a usable brand profile in front of you in about two minutes, rather than asking you to fill in thirty fields before the product does anything.

The three steps

  1. Your website: your brand name and URL.
  2. Analysis: the product fetches the page and reads it.
  3. Review: everything it drafted, editable, before anything is saved.

Confirming the review step stamps the brand as onboarded. That is a one-way milestone and it is what opens the rest of the product; it is separate from the completeness meter, which is a richness signal you can improve forever.

What the analyzer actually does

It fetches your page under a timeout and a size cap, so a slow or enormous site cannot hang the wizard.

Two different passes then run over what came back. Colours and social links are extracted deterministically from the HTML: no model involved, so they are either right or absent. The cleaned page text is then passed to a model to draft the written sections: niche, audience, voice, offerings, goals.

If the first fetch returns too little to work with (a JavaScript-heavy site that ships an empty shell) a reader fallback is tried before giving up.

The never-overwrite rule

The analyzer never overwrites a field you have already filled in. Per field, it writes only where you are empty. Re-running the analysis on a profile you have edited will not undo your edits.

When it cannot read your site

The wizard is designed to fail forwards. Each of these ends at the manual review step, with an explanation, rather than at a dead end:

What happened What to do
The fetch timed out Try again; a slow origin is often transient
The site blocked us: Cloudflare, a WAF, a bot wall Fill the profile in manually; the block is on their side
A cookie wall, login wall or coming-soon page Point at a public page instead
The URL is a social profile, not a website The wizard bounces you back to step one to correct it
The page was fetched but the model could not extract Retry, or fill in manually
You have used this month's analysis allowance Wait for the reset, or upgrade
Not enough allowance to run the analysis See generations

You can always skip the analysis entirely and write the profile yourself from Brand & voice. Nothing downstream requires that the analyzer ran.

Analysis is metered

Website analysis spends a generation and is capped per month by plan, because each run is a fetch plus a model call. The cap is on analyses, not on editing: editing your profile by hand is free and unlimited.

After onboarding

Go straight to your brand profile and read what it wrote. The two fields most worth your attention are Niche and Voice: they change the output more than anything else on the page.
