Writing a post yourself

Posts → New post is the one surface in the product where nothing is generated. Your words, your picture, your timing.

Why it exists

Every other route into the schedule runs through generating a plan first. That is the right default and a bad only-option: sometimes you already know exactly what you want to say, and being told to generate a week of content around it is absurd.

This door is available on every plan and on both editions, deliberately.

Composing

Write the caption, attach media if you want it, choose the platforms, and pick a time, or publish immediately.

The time offered by default is the hour your plan's own posts take on that network: your posting times for that day where you have set them, otherwise the network's usual hour. It saves you picking a sensible hour every time.

Per-network captions

A post going to more than one platform can carry a different caption for each. Use it. The same words in every room is the pattern that reads as broadcast.

Scheduling a post from your plan

The quickest way to schedule is from the plan itself: Schedule plan on the plan page puts the whole week on the calendar. To schedule just one piece, press the plus on the calendar, pick the network, the kind of post and the plan's words, then Schedule for the day. On the networks that support it you can place that piece as a Story instead of a feed post.

You do not need every network connected first. Schedule plan is greyed out until at least one of the plan's networks is connected, then it schedules the connected ones. Posts for a network you have not connected yet wait as drafts: tap its faded logo to connect it, then press Update schedule and they go too. If their days have passed by then, each moves into the next seven days, keeping its weekday and time; if another of your posts already holds that minute on the network, it moves a further week. Once everything is scheduled, the Schedule tab's Next line takes you to the week it lands in. Home tells you when waiting posts are ready to go out. The plan stays open until all of it has posted, and shows In use while some of it has gone out and the rest is still to send; once everything has gone it shows Posted. To finish without a network, choose Leave out for it from the ⋯ menu.

Your plan schedules on every plan

Everything in your content plan can be scheduled on every plan, Free included: the whole plan from its page, or one piece at a time from the calendar. The choice between posting now and scheduling below is only about posts you write yourself.

Editing a draft

Opening an existing draft loads it back into the composer in edit mode. Submitting updates that draft and schedules it: it does not create a second copy, which is a mistake worth not making at 11pm.

Post now versus schedule

For a post you write yourself, under When, the composer offers Post now and Schedule.

• Post now is on every plan. The post goes out as soon as you press the button, and the composer tells you if the network refused it.
• Schedule starts on the first paid plan. On Free it is shown but locked, with a link to upgrade. If you open the composer from a day on the calendar while on Free, it says the post will go out now instead.

A post of your own that was scheduled for a later time on Free, before this choice existed, goes back to your drafts when its time comes rather than waiting forever. Nothing is deleted. See plans and what's in them.
